Why this exists
Most feeding programs are not failing for the reasons you think.
"Fine" is a low bar. A horse can be fine and still be carrying invisible deficiencies in vitamin E, selenium, or the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio.
You can hit every number on a feed tag and still have a horse that is not building topline, not holding weight, not recovering the way he should.
The gap between a balanced diet on paper and a balanced diet inside the horse is where most programs quietly break down. That gap is what this consultation closes.

Shana Winkel, PhD
About your nutritionist
Shana Winkel, PhD
Shana holds a PhD in equine nutrition and has spent her career teaching horse owners that the gap between balanced on paper and balanced in the horse is the single biggest reason feeding programs underperform.
She founded ScoopRx because she got tired of watching owners spend hundreds of dollars on stacked supplements that were never going to solve the underlying problem. Her approach starts with the forage, measures what is actually in the bucket, and builds from there.
In a typical consultation, she will catch three to five issues you did not know your horse had. Not because you missed something obvious, but because the things that matter most are invisible without a trained eye.
Who this is for
This is for you if...
- You feel like your horse is "fine" but suspect something is missing
- You are stacking supplements and not sure which ones are actually working
- You have a senior horse, a hard keeper, or a performance horse with specific needs
- You want a real plan, not another product recommendation
- You are willing to weigh your hay and test your forage
This is not for you if...
- You want a magic supplement that fixes everything overnight
- You are looking for veterinary diagnosis or treatment (we recommend you see your vet)
- You are not willing to make small changes to your feeding routine
- You want generic advice you could find on a forum
Common questions
After your purchase goes through, Shana personally emails you within 1 business day to find a 60-minute slot that works for both of you. She also sends a short intake form to fill out before the call so she can come in prepared. You do not need to figure out a calendar in advance. She handles it.
That is fine. Shana can still review everything else you are doing and help you understand what to test for. If you do not have an analysis, getting one is often the first action item that comes out of the consultation. It costs about 30 dollars and shapes every decision that follows.
No. Shana is a nutritionist, not a vet. She does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. For anything that needs a vet's eye (lameness, ulcers, metabolic disease), you should be working with your veterinarian. The consultation focuses specifically on feeding, supplementation, and nutrition strategy.
The consultation focuses on one horse so Shana can go deep on his specific situation. If you have multiple horses you want reviewed, you can purchase additional consultations, or ask about a multi-horse package on the call.
Within 48 hours, you receive your written plan by email. You have 7 days of email access to Shana for follow-up questions on implementation. After that, you have everything you need to move forward, and you can always purchase another consultation later if your horse's needs change.
No. The consultation is product-neutral. Shana's job is to figure out what your horse actually needs, which may or may not include any ScoopRx products. The recommendations are based on what is best for your horse, not on what is in our catalog.
